Art project for Train Dining Car

Call for Submission All Aboard Mural This is a request for proposals for a paid art project. The Depot Museum in Avon Park, Florida is a small history museum managed by the Historical Society of Avon Park and staffed by volunteers. An authentic train car is on the grounds. The proposed art project will replace the dilapidated plywood currently affixed to the end of the car. The mural does not receive direct sunlight, but it is however, open to “the elements”. Specific paints must be used and a protective layer applied on the finished product. Mural design will be selected by a panel of judges made up of representatives from the Heartland Cultural Alliance, the Lake Placid Mural Committee, and the Historical Society of Avon Park. The final choice will be announced January 15, 2023. Deadline for Submission: December 14, 2022 Medium and Size: 8’ X 4’ Aluminum Sign Board Description: Historic or period (1950-1975) scene typical of train travel. A two-dimensional effect is requested. Ex: Passengers waving from the door of the train as it leaves the station or Conductor signaling “All Aboard” or collecting mail bag as train leaves station, etc. Submission must be a color rendition created to scale The submission must be an original work by the submitting artist and, if selected, will become the property of the Historical Society of Avon Park. Materials: Sign board will be provided. Cost of all paints and working materials is the responsibility of the artist chosen. Staging is not required. The art work will be completed before the sign is affixed to the train car. Compensation: $1,800 Location: 3 N.
